"‘The days are coming,’ declares the Sovereign Lord,

‘when I will send a famine through the land –

not a famine of food or a thirst for water,

but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord." - Amos 8:11

So how do you survive spiritually in times when you can't get what you feel you need to feed your soul in your accustomed and (no doubt) favourite way?

In 1 Thessalonians 2 , Paul knows that in spite of the way God usually works, that wasn’t how God was working at that time in Thessalonica, so he does NOT emphasising congregational preaching in this context.

Here he is emphasising the power in proclamation of what he'd been such a big part of in rabbinical Judaism.

It is CONSCIOUSLY relationship-building stuff ... but there's a lot more going on here than that.
